The Academy of Friends is an event that people go to watch the Academy Awards and dress up, mingle with cocktails, be entertained by dancers, and cheer or boo at the winners of the awards as they watch it live. The theme was Heros, Villains, and Divas, so I designed a five piece split backdrop with some of my favorite heros and villains...Superman, Rocketman, The Thing, Harley Quinn, and of course Batman. These flats are all 4' w x 12' h.

Medikenetics
Medikenetics is a pharmaceudical company that holds a conference every year. For this '09 event there were three stages, one that focused on allergenics, one on depression, and the main stage that mostly just matched their flyer. Each stage called for a custom painted lectern, and two of the stages had sculptural elements that I sculpted and painted as well.
Ebbie Awards
I painted this 20'w x 12'h backdrop for the Chamber of Commerce's Ebbie Awards. This process was a little different than others...I first painted a yellow background, and then aged it with a gold texture on top. Next, I taped out the paisley decoration to work as a stencil for when I sprayed the blue over. Took off the tape, and voila.
Academy of Sciences
I was asked to replicate the world's largest flower, the Rafflesia, for the Academy of Sciences. This is an interactive exhibit where the middle of the flower releases the scent of "dead body" every five minutes to visitors..it's a carnivorous plant and eats beetles and other insects. I built the flower itself out of foam, fiberglass, resin, and polyurethane glue for the texture, as well as acrylic paint. The diameter is about 3' and stands off the wall about 2'.

City Beat Luncheon '07 and '08
The Chamber of Commerce holds an annual "City Beat Luncheon," and for the 2007 event I was the designer, producer, and builder. The theme was focused on rebuilding a more sustainable San Francisco. I took pieces of a SF scape from the John Murray Production inventory and covered it with oldschool blueprints of SF that I got from my Uncle, who is an architect in the Bay Area. I painted arrows and lines on top and also applied 3-D arrows and squares to make it more interesting and to fit their flyer.
For the 2008 City Beat Luncheon I did the design for the stage. I didn't build the 14 foot light up bridge, it was in the JMP inventory, but I definitely took advantage of using it for this event. The gobo behind it of a silhouetted San Francisco works as a nice compliment with it as well.
